The demographics of the area are such that around 20% of the population is below the age of 18, and around 16% of the population is above the age of 65. Cubans, Haitians, and Guatemalans form a very distinct fraction of the population.

In addition to these, there is also a very thriving population of Hispanics inhabiting West Palm Beach. According to the census of 2000, English as a first language was spoken by 72% of the people, the rest of the residents speaking Spanish, French Creole, French, German, and Italian as their native tongue.

The infrastructure of the county is such that it has its own Palm Beach International Airport, which is ranked as one of the busiest airports of the country, attracting travelers from the treasure coast counties as well. US Highway 1 also passes through the city, which is also served by a port, right at the edge of the city limits.

West Palm Beach lies within the tropical belt, and hence the climate of the region is tropical, with warm and humid summers, and noticeably cooler winters. The lowest ever recorded temperature in West Palm Beach, was -2 C, on a night when it snowed measurably as well. Hurricanes are one of the very notable and important features of the summer months, beginning June 1st.

Apart from everyday life, its the attractions, the festivals, the shows, and the rich cultural heritage, which makes West Palm Beach so renowned, its climatic conditions are also such, that it makes it feel like a slice of paradise.

Residential recreation includes the award winning Clematis by Night, a free fountain side concert series, where visitors & locals mingle among arts & crafts vendors while enjoying live entertainment, and which brings the area alive every Thursday night. It has one of the more popular nighttime hotspots.

Cozy pubs, energetic dance clubs, concert halls and movie theaters abound throughout the downtown area, giving revelers ample choice of how to spend their evening. Residential highlights include Grassy Waters Nature Preserve, Roger Dean Stadium, and City Fun Summer Camps.

Major attractions include Palm Beach Zoo at Dreher Park, Lion Country Safari, Rapids Water Park, South Florida Science Museum, International Polo Hall of Fame, Flagler Museum, National Croquet Center, Palm Beach Kennel Club, Palm Beach Polo and Players Club, and Trump International Golf and Club.

The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Norton Museum of Art, The Carefree Theatre, Meyer Amphitheatre, Palm Beach County Convention Center, and the Respectable Street Cafe all serve the purpose of preserving and promoting the arts and cultural heritage of West Palm Beach and lure many a tourist to dazzle.
