The beautiful, monumental city of Vienna is the located in the Republic of Austria. It is also the capital of Austria. The country of Austria is located in the heart of Western Europe. Signs of first settlement date back to 500 BC, during which time, Vienna was home to Celtics. By 15 BC, the Romans had conquered Vienna and turned it into a bulwark against any invasion from the tribes in Germany. During the age and times of the Holy Roman Empire, the honor of being the capital city was bestowed upon Vienna. This period was followed by wars and battles which extended to the time of World War II. Later in 1970s when Vienna International Centre was opened, Vienna once again became the centre of the world politics. Today it is the host of the United Nations, IAEA, OPEC and many other international organizations. The legacy of the Roman Empire and various other dynasties has left the city to be a sight to behold. Rathaus, Stephansdom, Staatsoper and Kunsthistorisches Museum are masterpieces of true arts. In terms of arts and entertainment, the city stands unparalleled.
