Valdosta

Valdosta is the beautiful city, situated in Georgia. It is also the capitol city of the Valdosta Metropolitan Statistical Area. The state of Georgia is the state of Scarlet O'Hara, the famous character of Margaret Michelle's most loved novel ?Gone with the Wind'. It is also one of the first 13 Colonies that revolted against the British and fought in the American Revolution. It is the 9th most populous state. It is also known as the Peach State. Atlanta is its capital as well as the biggest city. From 2007 to 2008, 14 of Georgia's counties were ranked the second among the nation's 100 fastest growing ones.It is located in the coastal plain of Georgia and eventually it is completely plain too. The capitol city of the State, Atlanta lies some 40 miles from Valdosta. Due to the flat landscape, highways run straight for miles with hardly any turn or rise. As per the stats of US Census Bureau, the total area of the city is 30.3 square miles. Almost 98.2 % of it is land and only 0.3 miles square is made up of water which is about 1.09%. As per the census of 2000, the population of the city was 43,724. The climate can be described as generally hot. The Valdosta winters are virtually snowless, with April and March as the sunniest months. The Interstate 75 provides the major transportation route. The city is bisected by both US Highway 41 and US Highway 84. There is also the Valdosta Regional Airport in the city as well as a Greyhound bus station. Travelling around in the city is no problem as the city has abundant means of transportations such rented cars, buses, train etc.

Valdosta was incorporated in 1860. It was named after the Governor George Troup's state ?Val d'Osta'.
