Details of St. John and the Ticket Luck value

St. John
Located on the Bay of Fundy at the mouth of the St. John River in New Brunswick, Canada, Saint John is a spectacular city. Traveling time is 4 hours drive from Halifax, 8 hours from Boston, and 11 hours from New York City. Its location near the centre of the Bay Of Fundy also makes it the perfect destination for eco-tourism lovers.

The 450-mile St. John River is known by boaters from around the world, as the Rhine of North America. Neighboring communities include Rothesay, Quispamsis, Grand-Bay Westfield, and St. Martins.

The city was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1785 as Canada's first incorporated city. Although struck by a disastrous fire in 1877 which destroyed the city's central business district and much of the residential South End citizens rebuilt the city, this time out of brick and stone and on an even grandeur fashion than before.

The spirit of Saint John is evident in its untouched natural parks with views carved by the Bay of Fundy, and steep, history-lined streets bustling with Maritime charm. With lighthouses and covered bridges doting the landscape, the city is a bustling port with a small town feel.

When to go
Saint John is blessed with temperate coastal climate ranging from 22C/71F in summer, to -4C/25F in winters. However, it gets very cold during January and February; often dipping below -20 deg C. The best time would be fall when the foliage is ablaze in a rich tapestry of colour, providing plenty of picturesque photo-opportunities.

Activities
Some of the highest rated golf courses in Canada can also be found here offering quite an invigorating, rewarding and picturesque experience to the golf players.

Arts & culture also abound in Saint John which is not surprising due to its vibrant artistic community. Among the many not-to-be-missed places are Hayward China Museum, Loyalist House which survived the Great Fire of 1877, the Old Number 2 Engine House Museum, Jewish Historical Museum and the exhibits of period artifacts including their elaborate whale displays, Fundy Tidal Tower, Marine exhibits, ship building gallery and a whole lot more at the New Brunswick Museum, the oldest continuing museum in Canada.

For a good laugh after a delicious meal watch the musical comedy shows at the Phoenix and Water Street Dinner Theatres. The breathtaking Imperial Theatre restored to its 1913 splendor offers an array of cultural performances every week. It has featured such greats as John Sousa, Al Jolson, Edgar Bergen, Ethel Barrymore, Houdini, and Gracie Fields.

Open year round and offering an experience of traditional farmers market is the Saint John City Market on Charlotte Street. Opened in 1876 the market survived the great fire which devoured most of the city around it. Among the colourful displays of produce, meats and seafood, the most interesting pick would be a popular East Coast treat known as Dulse (dried seaweed). It is referred by the locals as the wise man's popcorn.

You could also watch or surf the tides as St. John is home to some of the highest tides in the world, rising and falling as much as 28 feet, twice daily. Those of you dare devils and adventure seekers taking a thrilling Jet boat ride through the Reversing Falls or tumbling through class 5 rapids in a giant hamster wheel allows you to sample nature's force first hand!

Well known as the Saint John Eco-Tourism Destination, Irving Nature Park boasts over 450 acres of coastline, forest, winding roads and well groomed hiking and back-packing trails. Here you can enjoy bird-watching like cormorants, herons, sandpipers, geese - more than 250 species have been recorded in this area alone.

The Fundy National Park is an ideal place for families and couples for either camping or just walking on the ocean floor at low tide at the flower-pot rocks at Hopewell Cape. The 2,200 acre nature Rockwood Park is the largest urban park in North America. Here you can walk the trails, bird-watch, golf, horseback ride, or canoe or kayak.

A romantic way to explore the scenic beauty of the city is through taking one of several free cable ferries to the Kingston Peninsula where you'll discover rolling farm fields and weekend country markets. Remember to make a wish as you cross the kissing bridges of King's county, the covered bridge capital of Atlantic Canada.

City Nightlife
For a fun night out, hit Saint John's downtown center with lots of pubs and bars. The current place to check out would be Cougars Lounge located on the boardwalk (downtown). The bar tends to get quite busy, and would be a cross between a dance bar and a pub.

A perfect mix if younger, university aged partiers and people in early 30s. Saint John is a refreshing haven and an exhilarating playground, waiting to be explored!
