Details of Somerville and the Ticket Luck value

Somerville
Somerville, a city located in Middlesex County in the state of Massachusetts in United States. The city is comprised of 4.2 square miles of which 4.1 square miles area is consisted of Land and 0.1 square miles of water.

Originally the city was known as the Charlestown beyond neck as it was settled as the part of Charlestown in 1630. It was called Charlestown beyond neck because it was connected to Charlestown with a strip of land that was called the neck of Charlestown.

However, in 1842 it was separated from Charlestown and became a separate town, because of urbanization of Charlestown, while Somerville was mainly a rural area. After the separation several ideas for its new name were put forward as well and one of them was to name it after Walford, who was the first settler of Charlestown.

However this idea didn"t satisfy a member of separation committee Mr. Charles Miller. Hence he proposed another name which was Somerville. Due to Somerville"s blue collar residents and high crime rate Somerville was once known as Slummerville and Scumerville.

The concentration of crimes was high in the east side of Somerville, where the mobsters and gang leaders, Howie Winter and James "Buddy" McLean of Winter Hill Gang were based. City was then referred to as the center of car theft due to its high car theft rate. But due to the urbanization of 1990"s the crime rate of the city reduced, so did its infamousness.

In 1929, John J. Murphy became the first ever Democratic Mayor of Somerville on his seventh try after he united Italian, Greek, Irish and Portuguese people in the region. Joseph Curtatone is the current Mayor of Somerville. In Somerville the Municipal Government is of Mayor-City council form.

Somerville is part of 26th, 27th and 34th Middlesex districts to represent the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
