The only National park Service property in Connecticut is the Weir Farm National Historic Site, straddling the Ridgefield-Wilton border. The site preserves much of the farm of a renowned painter of the American Impressionism style - J. Alden Weir. The land was later used by his son-in-law, Mahonri Young. The site encompasses the Weir Farm Art Center and a gallery, and offer many special events, including shows by visiting artists in residence.
Also of interest is the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance, founded in 1965 as the Ridgefield Studio of Classical Ballet by Patricia Schuster. In 2002 it became the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance, and now is home to two pre-professional performance companies such as the Ridgefield Civic Ballet and the Contemporary Dance Ensemble. The conservatory features the Nutcracker each year at The Ridgefield Playhouse.
