Tickets for Le Mans
Situated on the Sarthe River, Le Mans is the beautiful city of France. It is located in the region of Pays de la Loire and province of Maine and also is considered the center of the province. The province of Maine is often confused with La Maine which is a river. The history of Maine is studied with conflict, wars and bloodshed which are loosely related to Hugh IV and his marriage with the daughter of Odo II of Blois in the 10th Century France when Maine came under the influence of Blois. It bore bloody results both for Hugh IV and Blois but of course, the biggest sufferer of all was Maine itself. Le Mans is the heart and capital of the province of Maine. The local citizens go by the name of Manceaux as well as Mancelles. Both are French words. The city of Le Mans has an area of about 20 sq miles. The total population of the city in the year 2008 was estimated to be 148,169; previously it was 146,105 in the year 1999. It means that the population of the city is increasing ever so slowly.
There was a time in history when the population of Le Mans was bigger than it is today. In 1975, it was 152,285 which in other words mean the population of Le Mans is seeing a negative growth rate. The climate of the city can said to be temperate which can be said for any other European city. All the months receive almost an even amount of rain throughout the year. This very climate enables this industrial city to be known for producing multitudes of fresh vegetables and fruits. The transportation of all these products is an easy business as Le Mans is the capital of road and rail system of the province of Maine reaching nooks and crannies of the city can never be a problem even for tourists.
Best known for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the sports car race which has been hosted by the city since 1923, the city has rich cultural history. Also known as Civitas Cenomanorum, the city was originally inhabited by the Gallics. The Romans came along and conquered it in 47 BCE. The signs of Roman rule are still visible in the city today and can be seen in the form of city walling as well as the amphitheatre which was built in the third century. The thermae, or public baths which are an essential feature of ancient Roman architecture, were destroyed in the crisis of the 3rd Century. Later in 1300-1400, Le Mans was conquered by England. The English rule was brought to an end after the Hundred Years War 1337-1453. During this period the city was besieged 5 times! This rich history has gone down in the books well. The rich cultural heritage of the city is well-preserved which is why the cobbled streets can still be seen. Mus?e de la reine B?reng?re is credited with preserving some of the most precious historical accounts of the city. The remnants of Roman art are scattered around the city and to this day are a sight to behold.
