Las Cruces

The City Of Crosses is the Second largest city of New Mexico called Las Cruces. This Mexican city is located in middle of the fertile land of Mesilla Valley. Found in the Do?a Ana County of the United States Las Cruses is an agricultural land. The beauty of the region is enhanced by the Rio Grande River that flows in the west. The Las Cruces area is surrounded by the organ mountain along with the Dona Ana Mountains, Picacho Peak, and the Robledo Mountains located nearby. Las Cruces was founded in 1849 though was not incorporated as a town till 1908. The name of the city has Spanish origin and means the crosses. The reason for this name remains a mystery though amongst many speculations the most popular one says that it is named after the graves of all martyred by Apaches. The flag of the city also embarks the crosses which caused quite a controversy in the past. A lawsuit was filed that they are using public funds to promote religion by putting crosses on their flag. The lawsuit was though dismissed by the district court judge.
