Christened after the surveyor, Anthony Ivins, The city of Ivins in South west Utah in the United Sates is a sight to behold. Nowhere can a more perfect integration of nature is evident than in this little desert city. Originally known as the Santa Clara Bench, the city was first established by Swiss immigrants in the early 1900s. The main occupation of the people at that time was raising cattle or farming in the Pine Valley Mountains. The water needed was provided by a canal dug out from the Santa Clara River. Water for non-agricultural purposes was obtained from a spring known as the John Arch Spring in the Snow Canyon State Park. The city is a perfect example of nature at work to produce a natural masterpiece. Exquisite contrasts in both landscapes and color is a specialty of this particular piece of land. Red cliffs are set against white sandstone mountains capped by cold black lava with the grey mountains and blue sky in the distance.

Various desert shrubberies adorn the hills with abundant splotches of color provided by the desert flowers. The occasional cry of an eagle or the wagging of a furry tail in a whir adds to the natural beauty of the area.
