If you have been around USA without seeing Texas, then you have probably missed the heart of this country. Located in the U.S. state of Texas, lies the city of Garland in the Dallas County. Garland had a population of more than two hundred thousand ranking as the tenth-most populous city in Texas. The city is very near to the most major attractions in Dallas.It was around the middle 19th century that people started settling here in the colony area but the city was not really made a public place until 1874. Incidentally, two communities developed in the area in two towns which fell into a continuing rivalry for years. At last, the Dallas County Judge moved the post office between the two towns. The new city was founded in 1891 and by 1904 the population of the city rose to 819 inhabitants. Garland saw much technological advancement in the later years with a new electrical generator plant being financed by the local businessmen in 1920. This led to the formation of current municipal electric provider that is a major power source in the city today.
The city of Garland saw the up rise of some major commercial ventures in the 1930s with a food company and hat business developing along modern lines in the area. Also, a Dallas radio station uncovered its operations her in 1937 with a radio antenna tower being built which still carries on its operations to date. During World War II, many aircraft manufacturing plants were established here. In the early 1950s, a serious and prolonged drought affected the area. Things however improved after that in region. With the advent of the second millineum, a number of worthy developments happened in the northern part of Garland. Some of those were a waterpark that opened in 2003 and a conference facility that opened in 2005, an outdoor mall with lots of businesses operating under it. A hundred old High School here overlooks the avenue in front. The city buzzes with cultural activity also with Patty Granville Arts Center, a major complex.
The complex includes two chic theatres which have an ample seating capacity. Plaza Theatre is also an integral part of the theatre. Another elegant feature is the spacious ballroom enclosed with glass on two sides. The ballroom provides the opportunities of civic, community and commerce organizations to host banquets, receptions, trade shows and conventions. Another thing which catapults the value of the city is The Garland Opryis, a charity organization which renders the people of Garland with occasional countryside music.
Duke Nukem, a thrilling video game was created in Garland by 3D Realms, a video company. Apart from this, the city has been the center where TV productions have regularly been televised. This includes Chuck Norris television series Walker, Texas Ranger.
