Florence or Sainte-Florence is located in the Department or County of Gironde in the Region of Aquitaine in France. Aquitaine stands amongst the 26 other regions with in France and is further divided up in to 5 departments namely Lot et Garonne, Dordogne, Landes, Pyrenees Atlantiques and Gironde. Gironde got this name due to the fact that both the Garonne River and Dordogne River merge in this department of the Aquitaine Region. From the period of two years the name of the department was also changed to Bec-d Ambes. The department of Gironde is further divided up in to 542 Communes or Towns, amongst which Sainte-Florence stands. As of the population census of 1999 the total population of the town was 130.
Of the Metropolitan France, Gironde is the largest department. It also houses Europe's longest beach that is visited by huge flocks of swimmers and surfers every year. SCENES D'ETE EN GIRONDE is perhaps the largest summer and most happening event that are held during the summer season in Gironde. Every year the event attracts a number of spectators, and last year's count was 320,000 people. The event kicks off from the 1st of June and lasts for up to 4 months. The festival includes more than 600 events, and almost 80% of these events are offered for free.
Gironde is also rich in it aquatic heritage and encompasses almost 3500 km of area that is water, either river, lakes or ponds. It provides the best opportunity for some quality family holidays for those who are mainly attracted towards the wonders of nature.
