Situated in eastern North Dakota (ND), in the United States, Fargo is a city in Cass County, alongside the Red River of the North, that outlines the margin in the middle of Minnesota and North Dakota. The community, now known as Fargo, was founded by the Northern Pacific Railway, in 1871. It incorporated as a city in 1875 and had been named Fargo in honor of William G. Fargo, who was the American express shipper, Northern Pacific Railway director and the founder of Wells Fargo Express Company. Following the influx of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Fargo flourished and it became known as the Gateway to the West. The city has long been the financial, commercial, cultural, and medical center of a rich sugar-beet-, grain-, and livestock-producing area. During the early 20th century, the automobile industry flourished, and Fargo became home to Pence Automobile Company in 1905.
Today, the city is also manufacturing and processing farm equipment, as well as, fabricated metal.
