Fairfield, located in the Fairfield County, U.S., which itself is situated the active southwestern area of the state and is often called the Gold Coast because of being the wealthiest region in the nation's wealthiest state - Connecticut, is a town whose population according to the 2000 Census is 57, 340. Soon, as planned by the current First Selectman, the City of Fairfield will be turned into a major urban center, as several planning and zoning changes have been circulated. The new centerpiece of this effort will be the Fairfield Metro Center.
The U.S. 1, Merritt Parkway and Interstate 95 traverse the Fairfield. The city features two stations of Metro-North Railroad, along with a Southport station, and also a Fairfield station.
