The City of Exeter underwent severe damage during the World War 2, when the city was bombarded with German Artillery many in the form of bombings by the German Luftwaffe, for the total of 18 times. After the war concluded, the rebuilding process commenced in the city during 1950s, and since most of the buildings in the city were old, it was decided to completely demolish them rather than having them restored. During the rebuilding process, the road maps of the city were altered as well from what they were before, in order to appreciate better traffic circulation with in the city premises.
The population of the city has been growing gradually during the past few years, and it is estimated to be 119,600.
