The land around these mountains is ideal for grazing horses and for cultivation. The main river flowing through this town is the Black River, which is 534 km long. The Alpart alumina refinery is built here since 1960s and is a leading producer of alumina, which is used for export.There are other alumina refineries close to the nearby town of Mandeville.
