One of the major scientific discoveries is the Robert Falcon Scott"s Antarctic exploration vessel, which was built in Dundee and is now berthed in the city harbor. There"re two main universities in the city named the University of Abertay Dundee and the University of Dundee. The city is also home to the Scottish Dance Theatre, which is based in its renowned Dundee Repertory Theatre. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra regularly performs at Dundee"s principal concert auditorium Caird Hall. On 5 March 2004, Dundee was given Fairtrade City status.
Culture
Dundee plays host to several repertory theaters and is home to the Scotland"s only full-time repertory ensemble, established in 1930s. One of its alumni, Hollywood actor Brian Cox is a native of the city. Another "must-visit" entertainment venue is the Dundee Repertory Theatre, known for providing a base for Scottish Dance Theatre. Also are there various smaller venues which are notable for featuring local and international musicians during Dundee"s annual Jazz, Guitar and Blues Festivals.
Dundee Contemporary Arts brings you to experience the fun and excitement at art gallery and an art house cinema, located in the city"s cultural quarter. You may get whisked away by the attractions offered at McManus Galleries. This Gothic Revival-style building houses a museum and art gallery; putting on display a collection of fine and decorative art, items from Dundee"s history and natural history artefacts. In addition, Dundee also has rich literary roots in the city.
The city echoes with a vibrant music scene and has so far produced several international artists as well as bands. Popular music groups include Average White Band, the Associates, the band Spare Snare, Danny Wilson and the Indie rock band.

The Castle offers you magnificent views over the river, and is only minutes away from Broughty Ferry Beach and Esplanade. Moreover it is offering a changing program of events, activities and displays.
Dundee Flower and Food Festival is the premier show of its kind in Scotland and offers a three-day menu of food, flowers and fun for all the family.
Held in marquees in the magnificent Camperdown Country Park, the festival features a showcase for fabulous floral and garden displays and cookery demonstrations. Since it has something for everything, thus plays host to competitions, craft stalls, fashion shows and children"s activities.
