Located along the Mississippi River is a city in the state of Iowa, USA - Dubuque. Dubuque lies at the junction of 3 States named Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, hence is known as the Tri-State Area.
Geographically, the city is a part of the Driftless Area, a portion of North America that survived all three phases of the Wisconsinian Glaciations. According to US Census 2006, the city had a population of 57,696, making it the eighth-largest city in the state. It is the county seat of Dubuque County with a population of 92,384.
Dubuque lies within a continental climate zone and thus receives four distinct seasons. Spring is usually marked as wet and rainy, summer as sunny and warm, autumn as pleasant and mild, and winter as typically cloudy and snowy.
As of the regions geography, Dubuque serves as the main commercial, industrial, educational, and cultural center for all the three states. Located in the east-central portion of Dubuque, along the Mississippi River is the citys downtown district. Downtown Dubuque functions as the hub to Dubuques business and many of its government and cultural institutions as well as various outlying districts and neighborhoods. The location is also a center of the citys transportation and commercial sectors.
The area comprises several distinct neighborhoods, each of which has a unique character demonstrating its unique history. These neighborhoods include Cable Car Square/ Cathedral Square, the Central Business District, Jackson Park/ Upper Main, Lower Main, and the Warehouse District. An area within downtown that garners attention from the people around the city is the Port of Dubuque.
A massive amount has been invested for new construction in the region. There are several significant high-rises in the downtown district, many of which are historic, presenting Dubuques early and continuing importance to the entire region.

Of the most interest is the Dubuques waterfront, featuring the Ice Harbor, a home of Diamond Jo Casino and William M. Black. The Dubique Waterfront has several attractions in its surroundings including the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, the Grand Harbor Resort and Waterpark, and the Grand River Event Center.
