      Danbury
A city first inhabited by colonists, Danbury lies in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The census of July 2005 marked the population of the city as 78,736. People from Danbury, Essex in England came and settled here thus giving the city its name.

Danbury Hospital and Danbury High School add value to this city. The city had its first dwellers when eight families moved here from Norwalk and Stamford. The city was initially named Swampfield by the settlers, but in October 1687, it was titled the name Danbury by the law authorities. The city of Danbury was formally recognized in April, 1889.

Danbury served as a significant military supply depot by the Army during the American Revolution. However, the city was burnt and looted in April 1777 by the British. David Wooster the American war hero was wounded by the British soldiers and finally passed away in this city. To commemorate his services, the private Wooster School in Danbury has been set up.

The location was known as Hat City in the early 20th century because of its once booming hat industry, as it used to produce 25% of hats in the US. The first hat factory was installed in the city in 1780, which produced just eighteen hats in a week. Danbury Baptist Association was forwarded a statement in the early 19th century by Thomas Jefferson in which he stressed on Separation of Church and State.

In 1821, the first Danbury Fair was conducted and became an annual event by 1869 till 1981. Eventually, Danbury Fair Mall was organized by the fall of 1986. The infra structure in the city was developed over period of time. The first rail tracks were developed in Danbury in 1852 with trains going to Norwalk.

An interesting court case was seen in the city in 1902 when the Labor union boycotted a non-union hat manufacturer as a result of which the manufacturer sued the union for restraining trade. The case came around to be known as Danbury Hatte. In 1928, a land was purchased near the Danbury Fairgrounds and converted into which is now the present Danbury Municipal Airport .

A lake was artificially created in 1929 in Connecticut by the name of Candlewood Lake. The lake is helpful in generating hydroelectric power. During the second world, many protestors against the war were confined in Danburys prison. The prison played its role as the first prison to integrate its inmates.

The United Hockey League (UHL) engulfed Danbury in 2004. In March 2008, the city got a new team called the Danbury Mad Hatters. Danbury High School has had a very rich athletic tradition. Some of the sports played here have been wrestling, male and female track and field, baseball, football and basketball.

The citys infrastructure is very helpful for trade routes. There are two main highways which overlap in the downtown area, Interstate 84 and U.S. Route 7. Get Danbury tickets for a visit to a city rich with cultural significance!
