Daly City, the residential community, better known as a retail and medical hub, is located in San Mateo County, in the western part of California, near San Francisco, lying between the San Bruno Mountains and the Pacific Ocean on the San Francisco peninsula.

Situated in California, USA, Dally City is often referred to as the Gateway to the Peninsula. The city is also known as the neighbor, to the south, of San Francisco. Daly City has been named for the landowner and businessman, on whose land much of the city is standing today. The total population of the city is about 100,882, and experiences a cool climate, with very few extreme weather conditions.
The city is served by Highways 101 and 82, along with Interstate 280, and the Bay Area Rapid Transit system. Due to its close proximity with San Francisco, Daly City is also accessible through the San Francisco International Airport, which is only at a distance of nine miles. They city is also transported by the San Mateo and San Francisco transit systems.
Daly City has a rich history. In the early years, only a few small businesses and houses were erected close to the Southern Pacific railroad tracks during the 1860s. John Daly was among the first settlers of the area who established dairy farms there. However, development in the area did not occur until 1906, when San Francisco experienced a disastrous earthquake, causing thousands of residents to escape the city after their homes and businesses had been ruined.
All these refuges built their new homes in the area now known as Daly City. Then in 1911, the area got incorporated as a city. Over the years, the city has grown from a primarily rural town into the most populous city in San Mateo County, along with being a major center for business and recreation as well.
