The name of the city was also decided by its founder, Isaac Constant. The first store established in the region by Magruder Brothers in 1870. Soon after, the citys first post office was also opened in 1872, which bore the citys name - Central Point.

The economy of Central Point is mainly established upon tourism, retail trade, timber products, and agriculture. The central offices of the Rogue Valley Creamery, Dogs for the Deaf, and also the Grange Co-op are located inside the vicinity of Central Point; whereas, there is a huge area mall situated about four-miles away from the city.

If you go further, about 12 miles, you will find a factory outlet shopping center as well. The city Central Point features five public schools, all associated with the Jackson County School District. They include, Central Point Elementary School, Crater High School, Jewett Elementary School, Mae Richardson Elementary School, and Scenic Middle School.

The Central Point School system has been documented nationally for its many inventive and triumphant programs. Higher learning institutions include Southern Oregon University and Rogue Community College which are only a few minutes drive away from Central Point.

The city is home of the Jackson County Fair, which is hosted in the latter half of July each year. Central Point is also host to Harvest Fair, Hot Air Balloon Festival, Christmas fairs, rodeos, musical events and other activities year round. All this fun packed activities can be enjoyed at the Jackson County Expo Center, sited in Central Point.
