Details of Caserta and the Ticket Luck value

Caserta
Caserta is the capital of the province of that name in Southern Italy, situated in a fertile and pleasant region about twenty miles from Naples.

It is an agricultural, commercial, and growing industrial center, and a transportation junction, and is largely noted for its magnificent royal palace, built in 1752-74, and gardens. There is also an academy of aeronautics in the city.

Casetta is a suffragan of Capua, and has a population of 96,800, with 51 parishes, 176 churches and chapels, 267 secular and 38 regular priests, and 7 religious houses of men and 10 of women.

Caserta is located on the edge of the Campanian plain at the foot of the Campanian Subapennine mountain range. The city boasts a very particular history, which developed in diverse periods. Modern Caserta was established around the defensive tower built in Lombard times by Pando, Prince of Capua.

Pando destroyed the original city around 863. The tower is now part of the Palazzo della Prefettura which was once the seat of the counts of Caserta, as well as a Royal residence. The original population moved from Casertavecchia, the former bishopric seat, to the current site in the 16th century.

The city attained a certain importance under the Lombards and later under the Normans, and the counts of Caserta were once powerful lords in that vicinity. Later it was held as a fief by various noble families, last of all by the Gaetani, who made it over to Charles III of Savoy, King of Naples, by whom it was transformed into a second Versailles.

The royal family selected Caserta for the construction of their new palace, which, being in land was seen as more defensible than the previous palace fronting the Bay of Naples. This royal castle is the work of the architect Vanvitelli, and is an edifice of great magnificence.

In World War II the royal palace served for a time as the headquarters of the Allied command, and the surrender of the German army in Italy was signed there on April 29, 1945. The palace, with a richly decorated interior including a sumptuous chapel and theatre, stands in an extensive park with famous gardens.

Splendid residences were afterwards built in the vicinity by the aristocracy of Naples. It is not known when Caserta became an Episcopal see. The first-known bishop was Ranulfo whose election in 1113 was confirmed by Senne, Archbishop of Capua.

Being the birthplace of the Italian writer Maria Valtorta, Caserta city holds many attractions for its residents and visitors. As mentioned before, the main attraction of the city is its Royal Palace. It is one of the most visited monuments in the country.

In it you can find more than 1200 rooms, decorated in various styles. It has been the set for several famous movies such as Star Wars and Mission Impossible III. The park is 2 miles (3.2 km) long and contains many waterfalls, lakes and gardens, as well as a very famous English garden.

Another very famous attraction is The Cathedral, which was also built in the 18th century. Palazzo Vecchio, "Old Palace", a construction of the 14th century renovated by Luigi Vanvitelli as provisional residence for the royal court is another one of the main sights of the city.

The ancient centre of the comune and former bishopric seat, Casertavecchia, San Leucio resort, Vaccheria, and Piedimonte di Casolla are a few places which are worth mentioning when talking about which places to visit in the City of Caserta.
