Details of Bay Saint Louis and the Ticket Luck value

Bay Saint Louis
Bay Saint Louis is a city located in Hancock County, Mississippi. It is part of the Gulfport-Biloxi, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,209.

It is the county seat of Hancock County. Like several other upper Gulf Coast cities, Bay Saint Louis was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.

The big "must-see" in this region is the Gateway Arch, while other important sites include the Museum of Westward Expansion, the St. Louis Cathedral and the Anheuser-Busch factory tour. The city offers plenty for the whole family.

Children will enjoy the local zoo and the Magic House, while family members will also want to unwind at Forest Park, home to the World's Fair almost a century ago.

Geography
Bay St. Louis is situated on the Bay of Saint Louis, which empties into the Mississippi Sound. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.9 square miles, of which, 6.1 square miles of it is land and 10.7 square miles of it is water. The total area is 63.70% water.

History
Bay Saint Louis overlooks the Bay of Saint Louis, the Mississippi Sound and ultimately the Gulf of Mexico from the highest water-front elevation on the Gulf of Mexico. However, this beautiful little city is not the first cultural center to occupy this prestigious location.

The exact date when Native Americans first arrived is veiled in the mysteries of time, but it is certain that they occupied this land for thousands of years before the brothers Iberville and Bienville arrived to claim it for France in 1699.

Many changes came to the Bay after 1900. An automobile bridge was built across the Bay of Saint Louis in 1928. However, it burned with such regularity that it was hardly considered reliable.

In 1963, NASA and the Stennis Space Center brought new prosperity to the Gulf Coast in the form of employment. The impact of the arrival of gambling casinos in 1994 caused the prices of homes and property to soar to undreamed-of heights. New construction is going up on nearly every vacant lot on the shore and inland. Unemployment is limited to those who choose to be unemployed, and there is an appearance of abundance everywhere.

Art and Historic Center
Bay Saint Louis was designated one of the 10 best small arts towns in the United States, a reputation the town is still fostering.

The numerous area artists have played a vital role in the city's recovery efforts. Bay St. Louis is proud of its national reputation as both an arts colony and as a historic center.

Second Saturday Art Walk
The "Second Saturday Art Walk" was an established and popular regional event before Katrina, drawing both locals and visitors from a three state region. It was the first city event to reestablish itself after the storm and has remained an economic and psychological anchor for the community.

Museum of Westward Expansion
Museum chronicles the hardships encountered during the overland migration of the 19th century, which shaped the American West.

Scott Joplin House
A historic site dedicated to Joplin, an African-American composer who was immortalized in the movie "The Sting."

City Museum
Like no other museum you've seen before, this imaginative learning center features a multi-level enchanted forest, giant aquarium, participatory circus and a museum of oddities.

Magic House, St Louis Children's Museum
This fun-filled attraction offers kids many hands-on learning activities and provides a special area for younger children.

Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis
Built between 1907 and 1909, this Cathedral is known for its beautiful interior mosaics, which took nearly 80 years to create using more than 41 million pieces of tile.

Anheuser Busch
You can plan a tour the famous Clydesdale stables, brew house and packaging plant of one of the biggest names in beer.

Restaurants
Artistically prepared meats and seafood dominate the cafe menu. Inventive appetizers include lobster turnovers and crab corn cakes.

Zia's on the Hill
Classic Italian dishes and a cozy atmosphere draw crowds to this family-run restaurant. A selection of international wines complements the menu.

Conclusion
Major shopping malls, top name department stores, and unique specialty shops are just three reasons that shoppers love St. Louis shopping. Add in a varied assortment of antiques stores, vintage clothing shops, trendy boutiques and brand name outlet malls, and it looks like somebody will need an extra suitcase for the trip home.
