There are signs of Celtic settlements, being recently discovered even ancient than the Roman period. The city had been formed on the banks of Rhine, which had a proven factor for its importance. There was only one bridge for many centuries over the river.
Basel has the great tourist attraction, by offering the natural beauty to its peak, along with great monuments of Roman and Gothic type of architecture. The city had received the Wakker Prize in 1996.
