Covering the three council areas of South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire and North Ayrshire, Ayrshire is a county on the west coast of Scotland, on the shores of the Firth of Clyde.
Ayrshire became part of the kingdom of Scotland during the 11th century and in 1975, it became part of the Region of Strathclyde and was divided into four districts: Cumnock and Doon Valley; Cunninghame; Kilmarnock and Loudoun; and Kyle and Carrick.

In 1976, Digital Equipment developed a large manufacturing plant near the region. The company was taken over by Compaq in 1998 though.
To service Ayrshire and the more distant IBM plant at Greenock in Renfrewshire, various supplier companies grew up. Over the years, the region has developed its economy by diversifying its industry.
At present, tourist industry is remarkably contributing to generate heavy revenues in food and restaurant industry. Ayrshire bustles with an array of activities year-round. The merry-go-round people find every reason a good reason to enjoy and celebrate.

Blairquhan is situated about 16 miles southeast of Ayr next to the small scenic village of Straiton while situated about one and a half miles south of Maybole, 10 miles south of Ayr is Crossraguel Abbey.
You might also find Dundonald Castle a worth-visiting place. Overlooking the River Ayr, Dundonald is situated on a hilltop in the centre of the small village Dundonald. No matter what your taste and age is, there"s sure to have something for everyone in Ayrshire!
