The city was incorporated in1854 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. The new city contained partial Egg Harbor Township and partial Galloway Township. The communities surrounding the city include The North Inlet, The South Inlet, Bungalow Park, the Marina District, Venice Park, Downtown, Ducktown, Chelsea, and Chelsea Heights.

As of education, the Atlantic City has a strong comprehensive educational network in the city. The city"s education system is distinctly categorized into primary, elementary, middle and high schools The Atlantic City School District serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grades.
District schools include Brighton Avenue School for preschool, eight K-8 elementary schools, Atlantic City High School for grades 9-12, along with Venice Park School and Viking Academy. Atlantic City is home to Chelsea Heights School, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School Complex, New Jersey Avenue School, New York Avenue School, Richmond Avenue School, Sovereign Avenue School, Texas Avenue School and Uptown School Complex.
Also of notable is the fact that students from Brigantine, Longport, Margate City and Ventnor City attend Atlantic City High School as part of sending/receiving relationships with the respective school districts.

The Center has various programs that are conduction with the collaboration of either schools, colleges or corporate entities-museums, libraries, galleries and other arts organizations.
Visitors may either pause at Atlantic City Historical Museum showcasing a stunning collection of exclusive items. It"s a great place in the city telling you history in its making. The Museum continues to preserving the rich history of this one-of-a-kind seaside resort.
It is open daily and is free to the public. While visiting the museum on Garden Peir, please make sure to visit the Atlantic City Art Center. Stroll along Garden Pier and you will get whisked away by its natural beauty. The Garden Pier thought to be stood apart from the other piers in the city. The buildings are truly reflectors of the Spanish Renaissance architecture adding to the beautifully landscaped Gardens.
Although for many seasons Garden pier"s giant Underwood typewriter attracted upscale crowd for its formal appearance, ultimately the uptown location made it commercially less successful. However, remarkable work has been done and Garden Pier today has been restored to its earlier splendor for even greater public use and enjoyment.
People either living in the city or are touring it find Atlantic City a great place to shop. The resort is home to three large malls specifically geared towards tourists including Pier Shops at Caesars, The Quarter at Tropicana and Atlantic City Outlets, also called "The Walk". These malls exclusively feature old Havana-themed indoor restaurants, coffee shops and a lot!
