Start your first day in Atlanta by strolling through Atlantas largest Piedmont Park. In the park you can gaze up at the giant trees with the spires of Midtown buildings. The park also anchors many of Atlantas cultural events and festivals attracting more then 2.5 million visitors annually.
The Piedmont Park has fantastic playgrounds, bike paths, tennis courts and much more. Atlanta is also home to notable museums on subjects ranging from history to fine arts. Other local attractions and history museums include the Atlanta Civil war Museum and Atlanta History Center; the Carter Center and Presidential Library; historic house museum Rhodes Hall; and the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum.
Several theatres and centers also contribute actively to promote local arts and crafts including the Fox theatre, Atlanta Contemporary Art Center and Woodruff Arts Center mainly. The Woodruff Arts Center is home to the Atlanta Symphony, Alliance Theatre, and High Museum of Art whereas the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center promotes contemporary art and education.
The High Museum of Art is another major fine arts venue, presenting an assortment of traveling exhibitions and a significant permanent collection. Visitors can make an evening at The Atlanta Opera either.
The Georgia Aquarium is the worlds largest aquarium featuring a diverse aquatic life that can be found in any other aquarium. Its tanks hold approximately eight million gallons of water. Adjacent to it is the World of Coca-Cola featuring not only its history but also its fabulous advertising.
Atlanta is an ideal place for artists and producers who are trying to get into the music business. Though recently rapid gentrification has affected many music venues and small clubs adversely, the city still has an active striving live music scene. Atlanta is home to many popular R&B and hip-hop musicians.
In the late 1980, Record Producers L.A. Reid and Babyface established a company called LaFace Records. LaFace is now the home to multi-platinum selling artists such as TLC, Toni Braxton, Goodie Mob, OutKast, Monica, Ciara and Usher.
Atlanta is also the home of So So Def Records, a company founded by Jermaine Dupri in the mid-1990s. So So Def Records signed artists such as Jagged Edge, Da Brat, Jagged Edge, Dem Franchise Boyz and Xscape. The success of these companies led to Atlanta as a popular scene for record labels.
Atlanta is rich in the other genres of the music as well. Its classical music scene comprises well-renowned performing groups such as the Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Boy Choir, Atlanta Ballet, period-instrument ensemble New Trinity Baroque, and many others. The late Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphonys Robert Spano have earned worldwide fame as classic music conductors.
The city has a rich sports history and its famous sports venues include the oldest on-campus Division I football stadium and Bobby Dodd Stadium. Atlanta hosts the worlds largest 10km race- the Peachtree Road race and college footballs annual Chick-fil-A Bowl.
Along with St. Louis and Los Angeles, Atlanta is one of three cities in the United States to have hosted the Summer Olympic Games 1996. The venue for 1996 Olympics is now operated by the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. Atlanta anchored the NCAA Final Four Mens Basketball Championship most recently in April 2007.
