The historic Paramount Theatre is widely known for its splendid architecture as well as excellent acoustics. The building has become a magnetizing attraction for the masses and is now showcasing music and performing arts. It can accommodate up to 1,600 persons at the same time. It has also been regarded as ultimate and majestic.
In front of the Paramount Theatre, a big plaza has been created with custom brick-work and excellent seating arrangements. Live music will also be performed throughout the summer once it is opened.
The Convention Hall is the sister building of the paramount theater, extending out over the beach. It has a seating capacity of up to 3,600, but it may vary depending upon the event. The hall also features a spacious arena floor and an impressive stage area.
Grand Arcade is a magnificent architectural landmark, designed in 1923, connects the two buildings of the convention hall and paramount theater. Through Grand Arcade, extends the famous Asbury Park boardwalk. However, there are plans to build a museum also as part of the redevelopment.
In 2004 Colie Brice launched an Asbury Park-based label called AERIA Records. Universal Music Group presented the services of its distributor. Over the past several years AERIA has persistently released albums by local artists such as St. Christopher, Brian Amsterdam, Juggling Suns, Agency, Colie Brice, Rick Barry, James "JPAT" Dalton, and The Hesh Inc. In 1973, Asbury Park gained international fame after the release of Bruce Springsteen"s debut album named "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J."
Asbury Park has been chosen as a shooting location for many of the Hollywood movies. The 2002 movie "City by the Sea", featuring Robert De Niro, was shot in various locations around Asbury Park. Conversely, the 2006 movie "Dark Ride", featuring Jamie-Lynn DiScala, was set in Asbury Park, although the movie was actually filmed in Los Angeles, California.
The locals of Asbury Park"s enjoy rock-oriented nightlife. The Stone Pony is the most popular bar that attracts a notable number of rockers everyday.
The Stone pony is run by Bruce Springsteen and is home to the local bands of the Jersey Shore. The Asbury Jukes and Southside Johnny started their career as the house band at the Stone pony, before earning international fame in the mid-seventies.
The Saint -formerly the Clover Club- is another venue adding to the charm of nightlife of the area. The club features burlesque shows, arts shows, national music acts, hotrod shows, and performance art. You can also get pleasure from bowling there. Nearby is a vintage movie theater- Baronet.
Asbury Park holds first Saturday of the month event with numerous Asbury Park residents and visitors. On the first Saturday of every month, Asbury Park"s downtown art galleries, restaurants, antique shops, home design studios and clothing boutiques remain open throughout the event. The event offers a wide variety of live entertainment in addition to showcasing the town"s residential and commercial revival.
