Details of Amherst and the Ticket Luck value

    Amherst
Amherst is a small but beautiful in the Hampshire County of Massachusetts. The town is situated in the Connecticut River valley. According to the census in the 2000, it has the population of 34,874 people.

The town has some of the most significant educational centers like the Amherst College, Hampshire College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The natives of the town pronounce it, as Am-erst, which is not practiced in the other towns of the same name.

Amherst is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area, and the communities of Amherst Center, North Amherst, and South Amherst are census-designated places. It is worth mentioning here, that the great poetess of American literature, Emily Dickinson, who is also a worldly acknowledged name, was born and lived in the same town of Amherst.

The history of the Amherst town has a documented proof of a purchase deed dating back to December of 1658, over the geographical surroundings, covering the Amherst town of the present time.

The document show a deed of agreement between John Pynchon of Springfield and three native inhabitants, referred to as Umpanchla, Quonquont and Chickwalopp. Amherst is going to celebrate its 250th anniversary in the year of 2009.

It is interesting to know that The Amherst 250th Anniversary Celebration Committee has already been formed to observe the start up of the town wise festivity and the tourism related activities for the whole year of 2009.

Amherst had not been always an independent town, at the arrival of the first British settlers in the year of 1727, the whole land with the nearby areas like present-day South Hadley and Granby had been a part of Hadley.

It had achieved the precinct status in the year of 1734 and later into township in 1776, shortly before the colonies had declared their independence. After the declaration of the incorporation, it was suggested by the colonial governor, to give it a name of Amherst with reference to Jeffrey Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst.

It was the time of the colonial rule and the name was adopted by several of the authorities for their areas. It had been the main reason for having many of the towns with the same name in the Northeast of United States. Amherst was considered to be an undisputed hero of the French and Indian War.

One of the popular beliefs suggest, that he had won Canada for the English just singlehandedly, and he was the person, behind the break up of rule of France over North America. He had supported the American side in the war of revolution, and had sent his resignation to the British Empire, instead for fighting for them.

The demographical study during the census of the 2000, had suggested that there were about 34,874 inhabitants, 9,174 households, and 4,550 families residing in the town.

The population density has served as 1,258.2 people per square mile. The different reces are of the following proportion as 79.33% White, 5.10% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 9.02% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 2.89% from other races, and 3.35% from two or more races. There is a considerably high percentage of about 6.19% of the population of Hispanic or Latinos.
