Alzey
Alzey is another exotic location found on the map of Germany, it is a town located in the region of Rhineland-Palatinate. It has also been serving as the administrative seat for the district of Alzey-Worms.
The town is considered to be fourth-largest one Rheinhessen, right after Mainz, Worms, and Bingen. Alzey has been announced as the capital of Rheinhessen, in the year of 2008.
The geographical situation of the town has been a real help in gaining the title, as it is located at the exact middle of the road "Weinstrabe," which is known to be the biggest wine producing area.
Alzey is located in the outer west side of the northern Rhine rift. It is surrounded by the foothills of the Alzeyer Hugelland. The Selz, an affluent of the Rhine, flows through the city - partly subterraneous.
The main industries of the town have included winemaking (state wine school), psychiatric care, and supermarket chain of real and plus stores. The town of Alzey is located at the intersection of motorways A61 and A63 and it has rail connections to other towns like Mainz, Worms, Bingen and Kirchheimbolanden.
The historical survey has explained some of the finest details about the long formed eras, reaching back to the Stone Age. The name Alzey could be found out back to a Roman stone inscription from 223. But its meaning has not been explained by any archeologist, till yet.
There is a little belief that it has been traced back to a former Celtic settlement of the 400 B.C. The history tells us about the Roman vicus, being destroyed in the period of 350 B.C.
The Romans had put up a new fort on the remains of the vicus, in 390, which had seen a fall to the Burgundian only after ten years. Later the fort was finally occupied by the Allemanni and Franks, in the year of 450.
