Alcabideche
Alcabideche is a city in Lisbon province, Portugal approximately 14 miles from Lisbon, Portugal. Situated midway between Cascais and Sintra in the Estoril Coast, the small town of Alcabideche is the hub of a district of the same name. The name is derived from Arabic word which means "source of water".
Besides its many traditional-style windmills for which the town is best known, it is also famous as the birthplace of the Arab poet Ibn Muqana, who was born here in 1042.
Mostly destroyed by the great earthquake of 1755, vestiges of the town"s parish church still remain, parts of which date back to the 15th and 16th centuries.

The city"s main attractions include old-world European culture, beaches, resorts, deep-sea fishing, archaeology, history, scenery, festivals, churches, monasteries, castles and friendly people. Almost everyone likes Alcabideche, especially those who like beaches, pretty scenery, good food and a wide variety of active nightlife. Do not expect super-efficient service, though.
Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon
Perched atop one of Lisbon's seven hills, flanking Parque Eduardo VII, about 200 m northwest of Praca Marques de Pombal, this property continues to crown Lisbon's much-improved legion of hostelries. Built by the dictator Salazar in the 1950s, this is a monument of extravagant design and enormous rooms.
Millions of euros were poured into the hotel's recent renovation, and the added spa and pool make this the toniest address in Lisbon. Although affiliated only with the first of the property's two respected names, this legendary favorite competes with hotels of either name.
Penha Longa Hotel & Golf Resort
Sprawling over 220 hectares of pine forest in the fairytale hills of Sintra, this property is located 4 km south of Sintra and 9 km north of Cascais.
The hotel now operates under the aegis of Ritz-Carlton Hotels, whose Midas touch is welcome at the stunning but often overlooked resort.
Conclusion
Visitors staying in the Alcabideche area are well situated for sightseeing trips to Sintra and Lisbon, shopping at the nearby CascaiShopping centre, motor racing events at the Estoril autodrome and the sheltered beaches of Cascais and Estoril. Facing west, the famous Guincho beach is more popular for surfing and windsurfing.
