Set in California during the Great Depression, Of Mice and Men is an adaptation of John Steinbeck's 1937 bestseller novel by the same name. After almost forty years, the Steinbeck's classic American story is back on Broadway for a limited run. Being a popular selection for high school English courses and adapted by cinema, stage and radio, this 2014 stage version is bringing an impactful Broadway revival. Take this emotional roller-coaster ride and witness an epic tale of friendship and interdependence by getting your Of Mice and Men - play tickets today.

Of Mice and Men is a story of an unusual friendship between George Milton and Lennie Small, two migrant workers who move from ranch to ranch in search of new employment opportunities during the Great Depression. George is an intelligent and quick-witted man who grows to become Lennie's best friend and guardian. Lennie is strong-built but simple-minded guy with a peculiar liking for soft things, who becomes George's constant companion. Together they develop a bond of mutual trust and interdependence, with a shared dream of acquiring their own piece of land one day.

Lennie's love of stroking soft things almost always gets him into trouble. At a ranch in Weed, he is accused of attempted rape when he touches a women's soft dress and wouldn't let go. Fleeing from that town, George and Lennie end up on Curley's farm. Here they face a set of new troubles from the aggressive Curley and Curley's flirtatious wife, who instantly becomes Lennie's attraction.

In pursuit of realizing their farm dream, George and Lennie garner financial support from Candy, the one-handed rancher. But things do not remain pleasant for the pair as one day during a playful encounter Lennie accidently breaks the neck of Curley's wife. This leads to end of the duo's dream. Lennie's love for soft things coupled with his uncontrolled strength brings unforgivable consequences. George is forced to make the harshest decision of his life for the ever-lasting peace and protection of his best friend, Lennie Small.

In this impeccable production by Anna D. Shapiro, Oscar nominee James France gives his Broadway debut performance as George Miller. He is most sincere to George and keeps his persona alive in storyteller and protector of the dream guy that George is. With his mesmerizing narration, he convinces the audience of his ultimate passion to own a farm one day. The talented Chris O'Dowd takes on the role of Lennie Small who has the strength of a giant but the mind and innocence of a child. With his astonishing mastery of refined expressions and gestures, O'Dowd brings depth and intensity to the role of Lennie.

As the only female with some importance, Leighton Meester does full justice to her character as Curley's wife.  She plays the beauty of the farm with shattered dreams of stardom who often flirts with the ranch hands. Being a nameless woman, and apparently the cause of the downfall of many characters in this play, her role is not just of a pretty face but a fully influential character that brings the end to Lennie and George's life as they know it.

Supported by a cast of another six men who each owns their character, gives it the respect and a realistic dimension, this play is a most realistic depiction of Steinbeck's classic. The fantastic crew includes Jim Norton in his element of heart-wrenching Candy, an old, almost useless ranch hand, with Alex Morf as the brutal Curley who is bent on making everyone's life at the farm a living hell along with other real-life characters of Carlson, Slim and Crooks performed by Joel Marsh, Jim Parrack and Ron Cephas respectively. Even Candy's dog played by Violet gives a wonderful performance.

In this beautifully crafted revival of Mice and Men, the star of the show is perhaps the brilliant director Anna D. Shapiro who pulls off an impeccable production. The design work by Todd Rosenthal beautifully depicts the merciless environment of that era which is complemented by a bleak lightening scheme by Japhy Weideman and eerie desert music score by David Singer.

Of Mice and Men has received two Tony Award nominations, a Drama League nomination and a Drama Desk nomination. This intense stage drama is sure to move you to tears with its focus on human relations as the sole reason of survival during desperate times. This lesson is perhaps equally relevant for surviving through the cruel times of today. Take this journey with George and Lennie by buying your Of Mice and Men - play tickets.
