Dame Mitsuko Uchida, better known as Mitsuko Uchida, is a British-Japanese classical pianist. Mitsuko Uchida was born on December 20, 1948 in Tokyo, Japan. At 12 years old, Uchida moved to Vienna, Austria when her father was named the ambassador. This is where she attained most of her primary training as a classic pianist. She attended the Vienna Academy of Music, the Stefan Askenase and the Wilhelm Kempff. She was quick in learning and by the time she was 14 years old had already played her first recital. Soon, she was winning various piano competitions such as the “International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition” and the “Leeds Piano Competition”. Over the years, Uchida has made quite a name for herself for interpreting the works of Debussy, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Schoenberg and Schubert.
