We enter the scene on Christmas eve as the Siberhaus family decorates the Christmas tree together.  Later during the festivities the children's godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer, joins the family, bringing with him toys shaped as lifelike dancing figurines. He is a talented toymaker and his toys amuse Clara and her brother Fritz a great deal. The toys are later put away for safekeeping, making the children sad, but their godfather produces one final toy, a wooden nutcracker in the shape of a man, which delights the children and Clara in particular becomes fond of it, but young Fritz accidently breaks its jaw trying to break an exceptionally large walnut, which greatly upsets Clara. That night when she goes to check on her beloved toy, the clock strikes midnight, plunging Clara into a supernatural scene where the nutcracker is now life-size and gingerbread soldiers are battling mice led by the evil Mouse King. With Clara's help, the wounded Nutcracker stabs the Mouse King. Now handsome, and the mice having retreated, the Nutcracker leads Clara into a pine forest where we witness one of the most iconic dances, the Waltz of The Snowflakes.In act two, the prince Nutcracker and Clara travel in a boat to the beautiful Land of Sweets in Confiturembourg which is being ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy, awaiting his return. The story of how Clara helped restore the Prince to his original form is retold and Clara is honored with sweets from all over the world. The final waltz is danced and Clara and the Prince are crowned rulers of Confiturembourg.The nutcracker is one of the most engaging and beautiful ballets of all time and a treat for all age groups.
