The musical was premiered in 1960 and was produced by Lore Noto. It is based on the lyrics of Tom Jones, while Harvey Schmidt masterfully composed the musical. The production team was heavily influenced by Edmond Rostand’s play, Les Romanesques. It is about two neighbors, who deliberately feud to bring their kids together in a romantic relationship. Their kids do fall in the trap, but later realize what had happened and declined their arranged relationship. They go on their separate ways, to experience the world, only to come back in each other’s arms, this time out of their own free will.
