As the latter, a 1997 cassette release (You Can Play These Songs with Chords) became so renowned that a band was made. Walla and Harmer joined, with drumming by Nathan Good to form the band in Western Washington University. 1998 saw the release of their first album Something about Airplanes and the recruitment of long-time manager Jordan Kurland. The drumming spot rotated between Good, Jayson Tolzdorf-Larson, and Michael Schorr, before McGerr finally joined when the fourth album was due in 2003.
The band has released seven studio albums, with the last three getting a Top 5 spot. ‘Plans’went Platinum, and ‘Narrow Stairs’ was #1. Of the five EPs, ‘Open Door’ hit #30. “You Are a Tourist” is their only #1 single, while they have four Grammy nominations.
The band will tour Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada, and US this year. The Death Cab for Cutie Rockville MD show will blow fans’ minds on 30th April.
