The sun rises

Black Sabbath was formed in 1968 after their vocalist, Ozzy Osbourne, put an advertisement in the newspaper looking for musicians. Initially they called themselves the 'Polka Tulk Blues Band,' before changing the title to 'Earth.' They then picked their current name, which was taken from a 1963 horror movie of the same name.

The band released its first self titled album in 1970, followed by ?Paranoid? later that year. Both albums did very well, recording platinum and quadruple platinum sales respectively to cement their status as one of the leading rock bands of their time.

Over the next three years, Black Sabbath released three more records, all of which were certified platinum. Their 1971 release, titled 'Master of Reality' was certified two times platinum and made it to number eight on the Billboard charts. This was Sabbaths' highest finish on the charts, till their nineteenth and latest album, ?13? made it to number one.
